Clever Table design

By Tim Baker.

I thought I’d share this with you.

I’ve been trying to come up with a suitable arrangement for a cabin table.

I looked at other boats and couldn’t really find anything appropriate. I wanted to Try and avoid the centre table leg, I also have lovely floor panels, which I didn’t want to damage!

I stumbled across a camper van website which gave me the idea for the leg I have gone for. Easy to install with one fixing which allows rotation both of the leg and the table top.

It’s incredibly sturdy and allows freedom to move around without intrusion.

I bought mine from 'Just Kampers' and paid slightly more £65.00 for the Westfalia version and tried and tested brand. But they are on eBay for a few quid less. Certainly a lot cheaper than the marine versions available online.

I have a Victorian mahogany kitchen table which I’m going to use to make a nice table top.

I made up the cardboard template today, I’m going for 800 x500 mm size table with a possible drop leave on one side.

I’ve also decided to make a wooden floor mount, just to finish the table off and provide extra stability (not that it needs it)

All round the project will cost me no more than £100.00 and a few hours of my time.

I was trying to come up with a solution that could remain in situ more often that not.

Didn’t want to have to keep taking it down. So hopefully this way with a drop leave too it won’t block the passageway. Once I've mounted the completed table top I will send you over a picture of that..

Tim.

The above photos show the table in place and swung out of the way but still usable and the wooden support for the leg.  Have to say a very neat arrangement! John
