Hi Mat, She sailed wonderfully well,
So well in fact that in 1993 I won the 'Maiden Voyage Trophy'
for my trip from Liverpool to Douglas in the I.O.M. Via Beaumaris then onward to Whitehaven & finally returning to Liverpool
Yes it was in the Irish sea, yes it was rough (Force 8 on 1 occasion)
that is the reason we sailed into Angelsey
as when we were 5 miles or so off Douglas the wind shifted to a north westerly 6 gusting to 8
- right on the nose
we tried tacking but the waves kept pushing the nose off course & we were slowly sailing backwards
we hove to, which she did very well in 3 to 4 foot high waves
After a rest & a cup of tea, we ran the 50 odd miles into Beaumaris Surfing most of the way there under storm jib & a fully reefed mainsail
For ballast I had about 320 lbs of lead hanging under the 1 foot deep keel .

Re: Calling all Senior owners, builders and dreamers!
Just wanting to say hi somewhere, somewhere where people know about Seniors
Of your "Calling all Senior owners, builders, and dreamers" I am currently the latter, the dreamer, working toward becoming a builder, and eventually an owner.
I have had the plans for a couple of years now, and just added the Selway-Fisher plans to them. As there does not appear to be any written instructions on the build process, and I am a total novice, I am looking for somewhere where I can ask all the dumb newbie questions.
My play is to build a Senior with a 10% upscale - to give my old legs and head a little more space - and I am starting with a 1:8th scale model, but in starting that I came across my first dumb question.
To build the stem, it shows to cut a bevel in the front of the stem, but does not indicate how far to carry this bevel. Is it just on the front face? Should it continue around the curve at the foot of the stem, or even futher and right round until it joins the hog?

Hi Simon,
The stem can initially be bevelled purely to make removing more wood easier when the framework is being prepared for the ply skin.
With my first plywood build only a small amount of bevelling was done down as far as the lower chine, after setting up and fixing frames, chines, hog, inwales etc, I used a strip of ply laid across the framework and slowly planed the framing and stem until the ply laid perfectly flat,
At the stem the bevel got flatter as I worked down towards the hog.
Hope this makes sense
Cheers Mat

Getting the frames set up now. Just using some old MDF (yuk) as the frames.
