Re: Riptide performance - build tweaks
Hihave you considered the bilge keels mods that Richard Hare gives in PBO several years back? Would make the keels more hydro dynamically satisfactory. Sail area can easily be added. Do you realise there is a grp golden hind part finished on ebay at the moment. Or perhaps you relish the thought of b...

Re: Golden Hind 31fuel tank replacement
In practical boat owner a Nauticat 33 owner used air compressor tanks as replacements, might loose a bit of capacity but easy to fit. On a boat I sailed on the owner had used stainless steel vessels from a Ice cream factory!!!!

Re: Golden Hind restoration
Hi interesting restoration which raises 3 questions for me, 1) What is he best way to prevent fresh water ingress? 2) Where are the rot weakness areas on eventide, riptide and WW, can they be designed out? 3) What are the preferred painting options v cost? Epoxy cloth? Epoxy PU, Oil based Just a few...

The credit crunch meant that we have had to take un secured loans for the exten...

Re: Athaena - Rot near the chine
Does she have the corner post type chines which the WW does? If so I can see it being quite a convoluted job to extract the chine without damaging the ply, I suspect ply will be damaged scarfing in a new peice in is surely only way to go. how to do itwith out removing ply and replacing whole bang lo...

Re: Plywood grades
Hi Finally got the keel epoxied up out of 1 x 2 x 8" and 2x 2 x 6" timber so the ply will land on the 8" timber, will be putting a 6" steel channel on bottom to cap off the keel which can be lowered and concerete keel added when she goes to sea. The canals have limited depth so a full keel will be a...

Re: Doghouse
How about taking some hardboard down to the boat and some small nails and make a mockup. Then you can see the shape in real life. I would think that 3/8th ply would do with 2x2 timber corners. The back ones could bolt onto back of coach roof. 1/4 perspex would be fine for windows . Could do loco sty...

Re: Waterwitch
Hi I have been contemplating a ww build for simalar reasons ie a sailing boat suitable of the UK canals. I shouldthink that you can reduce the keel depth somewhat, however the ww hull shape has very little shape to it either for or aft or accross wise, so that to reduce the keel section too much may...

Hi surely cannot be more than 4 ton a vertue comes in at 4 1/2ton. Nor is she going to be much more than an eventide which is about 3 tonnes or 2 empty. How are they proposing moving her with an arctic? Or a smaller trailer? If is a smaller trailer how about dropping the keel and transporting separa...

Hi thanks for all the encouragement. Particularly the latest pics and logs in the WW drawings. From what they suggest 18mm ply on 18" centers seems best! Just getting extension finished first and then timbers carted down to build site. Before I start in new year. Recon might take 1 month per sheet o...
