Re: gh or eventide Yankee/Jib on a bowsprit

All those sail makers have been around since Noah, so have stood the test of time!

You pays your money and takes your choice.

If the sail is on a roller reefing, the additional foam in the luff is a good idea, will make it set better reefed.

Good luck,
John

Re: Barbican 33 Centre plate

Hello Buzzard, There is a case for doing away with it, but it will make turning in marinas and the like more difficult if you have not got the plate there to pivot around. Some owners have neatly got round this by installing a small bow thruster, then marinas etc a doddle. The later commercial build...

Re: Plywood supplier please...

Sorry no one answered you back in April..

Did you find a good source?

Good marine ply at a decent price is difficult to find anywhere these days.

How is the restoration going?

Last I heard from you it was about moving your big boat to this neck of the woods to be nearer to the WW.

Regards,
John

Re: GH31 bad leak: quarter berth, from cockpit...somewhere

Great to hear you are on top of it and yes the time to repair rot is of course as soon as you find it! I always advise cutting out a few inches further than you think it has travelled, to be sure. Epoxy and decent ply and hardwoods every time, this is a job you just do not want to be doing again! We...

Re: GH31 bad leak: quarter berth, from cockpit...somewhere

I built my Eventide under such a tent! It was 30 x 15 and all made from scrap floorboards into frames and the frames lashed together with string and spaced apart with battens, lasted 5 years. Several layers of tarp, as they rotted through! Got so hot inside I had to cut vents in it! Good luck drying...

Re: GH31 bad leak: quarter berth, from cockpit...somewhere

I agree with your local guru! I have just stripped a couple of hatches off a friends Eventide, they had strips of teak and Sikaflex, but screwed down! i have stripped the lot off and tossed it, repaired the water damage to the timber underneath with epoxy and then epoxied a Treadmaster mat on top, n...

Re: GH31 - plans for bilge plates ?

We have a member here Nick, who has a GH 31 that lost one bilge keel. (It is still at the bottom of a nearby creek!) I have suggested he measure the remaining one up then take a photo and put the measurements on it for you and anyone else wanting to replace a keel, or two! Hopefully Nick will get ba...

Re: GH31 - plans for bilge plates ?

Hello Matt I will pass this on to Mark, but I can add my three pennies worth too. The bilge keels are best galvanised, then they can be later epoxy coated. Sure someone is galvanising in N.Z. Not expensive but the best protection…. Mine have survived 28 years this way and when I stripped the epoxy o...

Re: New name?

Now that is not a bad suggestion! We have always had the problem with the name. It is historical. Everything started with Eventide owners, but it soon became aparent that Waterwitch owners wanted to belong, and it snowballed out of control from there. We have never come up with a better name, most s...

Re: Seized rudder stock

Not surprised it is like this, I have spent hours trying to sort the rudder on John Steven's Glasstide! A GRP version of the 26, but still using the archaic inboard rudder. I eventually had to use a powered hacksaw and yes it was just like yours. solid steel shaft and so tight fit in a steel tube, n...

Re: Kylix 29

Welcome to the forum Norman. I do hope others come forward to give their three pennes worth as well. To take a keel bolt or two out, assuming they have removable nuts inside the boat and are designed to be driven out, means either digging holes in the ground under the bolt heads, so they can be driv...

Re: Eventide Prop Size

Hi Nigel. I assume you mean you are going to change the pitch an inch. But if there is a way you can add an inch to the diameter and not foul anything and still have 10% of the diameter clearance from blade tip to hull even better, as the larger the prop the more efficient. (The racing boys have sma...

Re: GH31 bad leak: quarter berth, from cockpit...somewhere

See you never had any response to this plea and I have to say I have not heard of any other GH owners suffering from a leak here. As she is GRP you would not expect any leaks! However I have heard of cockpit locker lid drains bunging up and wonder if there is a blocked drain somewhere. Hope by now y...
