Bet you have done it by now, but the greased plank works well, don't tread on it though!
local five a side team would move it in their halftime break!
Good luck,
John

VHF
Hi Adrian, VHF today is rather like the mobile phone ashore. Most would not go out without one, even to the local shops. The VHF today, and I realise you have not sailed for years, has entered the digital generation. I have not yet switched to digital, but many have. When my set fails for any reason...

Eventides
Hello Adrian, Seems you may have had some bad experiences.... Yes there are those built of old tea chests, but you normally can see them a mile away and they don't last long. What is still around from the 1960's and later, should be based on a fair framework. Though any wooden boat will rot if left ...

Gearbox problems
Hello Jenze, sounds as if there is a heavy load on the gearbox to do this... Maybe the prop is too large. Can you get the revs on the motor up to the full revs listed or does the prop limit it? A few hundred revs lower is normaly OK, but if it is say a thousand revs under I would think you might nee...

Tiller pilots
I too have a Tiller pilot, a Navico made device. It is 15 years old now... It is designed for craft of 30ft, whereas we are just 27ft. It copes well, but when conditions get beyond F6 it struggles. Having been out once or twice in F7's, I hope never to be out there in similar conditions again! So th...

new bulkhead.
Hi john, If the bulkhead is not structural, then I suspect the easiest way to fasten it would be to several shaped timber blocks forward of it on each side and the blocks fastened through the planking. Two screws per block would siuffice. try to use Silicone Bronze screws, they will not corrode like...
Eye bolts
Hi Chris,
Well done finding a galvanised one, they are getting to be difficult to find these days, not many chandlers have them.
You get the same look if you ask for tallow for the lead line too!
cheers,
john

Erskine Boats.
Hello Alan, sad to see no Junk rig adice as yet.... however I cannot recall many MG boats that were. Jua the GH 34 was very sucessful, the owners sailing her to America and all round the med. Sadly they have now sold her, but she is back in the UK.... The only Junk rigged WW's I knew went sideways a...

Differences in 30 years
Hello Len, you probably did the right thing moving away. So many of my former police colleagues moved to the 4 corners of the world. They are all having a better time of it than we seem to have on our overcrowded little island. Legislation and rules now abound, too many edicts and the like coming fr...

Hello there, sorry to be slow answering, but to be honest if anyone wants a quick reply, the best place is the website Advisors page. Here you get directly onto someone who has offered to help. Eyebolts.
Hi Chris.
If the eyebolt is above the waterline, as it should be, there should be no problem using stainless. Indeed they are a lot easier to get hold of these days.
I would be tempted to use a long Stainless 'U' bolt if you can get one long enough, 2 bolts instead of one! Stronger.

Keel bolts...
Hi Jeff, The bolts were right through the iron keels on most boats, the heads were recessed in and coverd with a wooden plug.. You will have to dig them out with an old screwdriver to expose the heads. The 4th bolt may be turning, or it could well be that the bolt has wasted and broken, so do not go...

Flags?
Hello Len, this is an odd one! As a British subject you should be able to fly the Red Ensign, but you would really need to register the boat in Britain to to this. The Small ship Register, you can search on the net and find them, cover registrations. It is low cost and does not prove ownership. howe...

Epoxy filler
Yes Mike, I would go for the epoxy where the cabin top and decks are to be later coated with a modern paint. For the hull, specially beneath the waterline a flexible filler of some sort would be better. If the timber moves a lot, then anyfiller that sets or semi sets might cause probelms. Go to your...
