Sailing at the weekend!

Off out sailing for the weekend, though the boss says I'm not to hoist any sails!! Might get away with a bit of unrolled genoa though!

1st time out, great to be able to be sailing, with friends as well!

cheers,

Hi Mike, back up to speed now and can get to computer for short periods! your Sail number ... Y M denotes 'Yachting Monthly', the magazine that sponsored the design. Maurice Griffiths the designer was Editor of course! The 'E' is Eventide, later boats like my 'new' Eventide had E26 to denote the len...

Hi Mike, I suspect your Eventide is one of the very early ones with a ballast keel of just 560 lb. 'Borer Bee' another E24 had just such a keel. She was sailed from Singapore, where she was built, double diagonal like yours, all the way to UK. When the arrived they said she was not ballasted enough....

The bilge keels on the older boats were normally bolted on with 3/8th inch galvanised coach bolts. they had nice domed heads that were easy to paint over on the outside, with a square section to locate into a square in the bilge keel, drilled round hole sqared off with a tapered square punch and a h...

Website Coordinator laid up for a week!

Hello Folks,
I am hoping to get the call today to go to the Royal London and have my slipped disc problem sorted.

I will be off air for about 10 days I guess.

Keep the ship steady as she goes!

Hello Kes, Welcome to the Forum. Be pleased to know the name of the boat and maybe you might fill in the registration form on the home page so we have more details of you and your new craft. Could it be 'Kaifas'?? she was one of just 2 28ft versions I have heard of, most are 24 or 26, or are you cou...

Hello Chris, If you look around the site you will see most of us have a large genoa on a bowsprit as the normal foresail, nowadays on roller gear. I sailed with hank on sails for years, till I could afford a roller reefing gear, great bit of kit, use it all the time, makes it so easy, no trips to th...

Hi Dave, The Gulf Stream 42 gets several pages in MG's book, '60 years a yacht designer'. Not a great deal of information perhaps, but a few measurments, such as ballast etc.. The book is out of print now I believe, published in 1988, but can be found on S/H book stores, try the link on the books pa...

Hello Nigel, X- Raying is not cheap, but it is certainly a good way of checking the condition without spoiling anything. I have had problems drawing bolts on my old E24, see the Hints and tips page of the site, but this was only because 3/4 bolts had been used in 3/4 holes, instead of the specifies ...

The ballast on my boat is 1800lb external on the keel, plus extra internal lead weights to make it up to 2240lb or 1 ton. My boat weighs in at 3.5 ton, so the ballast is less than 1/3rd of her displacement, which is considered light by many... she is 27ft long and the hull is thicker than standard, ...

Hi Tim, This is such a common problem. Photographic records are sometimes all we have, however in the past I have used measurements, i.e tip of transom just touching water, ( well it used to!), then 5" up from chine amidships and so many inches down the stem from a fitting, bobstay in my case. When ...
