Re: Eventide Bilge Keeler Trailer

Good idea Mike, Tell you what I will take a few measurements for you and add them here, but will do an in depth article and add it to the one already on the site http://www.eventides.org.uk/trailer.htm I would say a 2 ton capacity 4 wheel trailer would be right for a 24ft Eventide. I went to 3 axles...

Re: How to rig boomed staysail on cutter rig

Hello Chris, I have the boomed staysail on Fiddler's Green. the sail has to be specially fitted out for the hanks. the lower hanks are not hanked directly to the sail but to a 6mm rope that is woven in and out of pairs of eyelets above and below where the hanks would normallu fit, 3" apart. you can ...

Re: "NEW KID ON THE BLOCK"

Hello There and welcome, have you filled in the enrolment form on the main site home page? We would love to have all the details you can give of your boat, we may be able to track her history down. Love to print the pics and story on the Gallery of the main site too, if you send it in to us. the gal...

Re: Hello All

Hi Paul,

I think our members are shy! we are going to try and encourage more of them to use the Forum by offering an interactive map and chance to contact other owners using the PM system.. Until then sadly its is not as well used as it could be.

Regards,
John

Re: balance

Weather helm is a feature of all of MG's designs, he admited to me he was overly cautious not to build a boat with lee helm tendencies. The Eventide has, over 50 years of evolution, cured the problem. We first took all the rake out of the mast, on the original drawings the boats were akin to Arab Dh...

Re: removing my bilge keels for improved windward performanc

Brilliant response Mark, that is just what this site is about! I would never agree to remove mine, and I have often connsidered adding a little weight to the bottom of them, rather than, as it is, screwed down lead ingots on the inside of the boat as trimming ballast... but have never quite got roun...

Re: eventide 24

Hi Dave, Yes there is a 'Redwing' on the Gallery, she has no 'break in the sheer' as we call it, at the normal place and quite a different cabin shape especially forward. Difficult to say what length she is. I think a former owner sent the pics in when he was selling her. I can imagine you are going...

Re: eventide 24

Hello there, sorry you did not leave a name.... The Redwing on the Gallery could be a 26, it is difficult to tell, I suspect it is a 24. The only one I know of is a 24ft version that is ply and used to be owned by Mr. George Norridge. Not all Eventides had portholes, indeed many did not, and apart f...

Re: Athaena - Foredeck repairs

Hi Chris, I bet that felt good! I recall the day the tiller came alive in my hand, all that effort, all that time! The benefits far outweighed the effort.

The picture says it all.

Look forward to being able to print all this on the site proper.

John

Re: lug sail

Hello julio, The only thing I can suggest is to look at the information in the sales leaflets we have printed on the Gallery, here is a link to the page, http://www.eventides.org.uk/goldpic.htm It gives sail areas and you can scale up the drawings easily enogh. do send in some pictures once you have...

Re: Refitting cast Iron keel

Today I would just stick to the Sikaflex, if you exscuse the pun!

Wife helped me fit bilge keels (over 20 years ago), she still talks about how long it took to get the stuff of her hands!

John

Re: Refitting cast Iron keel

Hi Mike, I would sandwich the extra 1" thick steel plate between the cast iron and the deadwood. You can gently lower the plate (s) onto the ballast keel, locating the holes with dowels. Use Sikaflex between layers. I would aim to make the keel over 1,020lb, just. the boat will sail so much better f...

Re: Best aft edge of Bilge Keel

Hello there, The reason the aft edges of the bilge plates were extended aft in many of our boats is explained fully in the 'Weatherhelm' article in the 'Hints and Tips' section of the main site. It is an option builders have used when they perhaps did not want to fill in the area between main keel a...

Re: Converting a bilge keeled Senior to centre-board

There is always the Martin Lewis version.... He got Kenneth Gibbs to OK a deepened keel version. He dropped the ballast keel 6" and fitted steel bilge plates to match. the outcome was a Senior that sailed to windward, could beach on a foreshore and was easy to trail home. If you look at the Hints an...
