SOLD:  Golden Hind 31, 'Ceilidhe'

This boat suffered the ignominy of being launched at Tollesbury and promptly sinking! The owner sold the recovered boat, less a bilge keel to Nick, who used to own her years ago and could not bear to see her in this condition.

Nick has painstakingly cleaned and restored her, not only replacing the missing keel and repairing the hull but also tearing out any rot he found on deck etc. and replacing all with new.  All the electrics removed and replaced.  The engine removed and replaced. Nick tells us the motor is not fully connected but he has paid someone at the yard to finish the installation.

All the soft furnishings scrapped and replacing them  is about the last job to do, Nick tells us, before she is ready to go.

Sadly Nick has now had an accident and is unable to finish the boat, so is sadly offering her for sale as a 7/8 finished project.

SOLD:  30ft Waterwitch Sloop, 'Blackwater Witch', ex 'Dougaljo'

http://www.eventides.org.uk/images/Dougaljo1.JPG

'Blackwater Witch' as she was, as 'Dougaljo', photo by John.

'Blackwater Witch' is sadly  up for sale, Polly is selling after the loss of her John who has nearly fully restored the boat.

When she was called 'Dougaljo' I sailed many hundreds of miles in company with her, to the Netherlands, around the Essex rivers and even to the west country..

Sadly she  was eventually sold by our friends Doug and Jo, when they decided to 'swallow the anchor', after which she had a little of a chequered life.  The first new owner did a good job of restoring some woodwork on her, replacing bits around the galley and adding a lot of gear inside to make her into a floating bachelor pad.  Sadly he did not keep her very long and sold her to a chap who actually used her as a caravan, first afloat in Tollesbury marina,  then later in the car park at the back of the cruising club.

I saw her there  some years back with the indignity of a TV antenna fixed to the mast!

He eventually advertised her for sale, but had allowed rain to get inside and rot to get into a small area on the stbd quarter and the bottom planking. A survey turned up the soft patches....

Enter John and Polly.  They spent a great deal of time, effort and money fully replacing frames and planking, part of the transom too.  Sadly John passed away just before completing her.

From what I have seen she is strongly epoxy glued with decent timbers and the damaged stbd planking repaired and epoxy coated.  She needs sanding and filling to fair off the underside then repainting, a months work if a determined person worked on her full time.

At the moment she is under a very substantial tarp at Tollesbury  and she can be finished off there, there is more ply and fixings included, stored locally.

The restoration pictures by Polly

These of her under the tarp by John, crawling under her last Sunday!

Looks as if it just needs filling and fairing

Eventide ' Helen May'

I am unable to continue with the work, which is almost complete, due to health reasons. I would like to offer her to someone who is a Maurice Griffiths enthusiast. She has mast sails but no engine. No rot. She is in Rochester, Kent, on the hard. I would be happy to let her go for a nominal amount  to ensure she goes to a good home where she will be completed.

SOLD   Eventide Motor cruiser!!

FOR SALE : Eventide 26, SULA now converted to a power only Motor Cruiser for a 3-4 year spell on the Brittany Canals.

SULA was built by myself in Plymouth of Thames Marine Ply on Oak Frames and Sheaved, eventually being launched in 1988 having been completed to the same standard as a Terry Erskine's built Golden Hind. Terry was very generous with his guidance especially when it came to sheaving. Sula has a Golden Hind 26 glass fibre cockpit moulding with teak locker lids.

After many years sailing out of Plymouth on coastal and cross channel trips it was decided to convert to motor only and start her adventures on the French Canals.

All traces of ‘sailing’ were removed and a brand new YANMAR 3 YM 21 had previously been installed, along with new stainless steel prop shaft, new flexible coupling, a rope cutter, and new larger 3 bladed propeller perfectly matched to hull and engine. This resulted in excellent smooth quiet performance with outstanding economy.

Inside Sula has a warm welcoming feel with the original upholstery still in virtually unmarked condition. Forward cabin has comfortable V berths with infill to convert to a large double. In the main cabin there is a quarter berth and a settee berth with foot well.  Between these cabins are the heads cubicle to starboard and hanging locker to port. On the port side of the companionway is the galley consisting of an Eastham 2 burner cooker with grill, and a large stainless steel sink with manual water pump supplying fresh water from a flexible tank below the cooker.

There are copious  amounts of storage in all areas of the boat.

As a canal boat Sula has proved to be excellent and she is absolutely ready to go again!

She is afloat on a Plymouth marina and a berth may be available.

Reduced price, to £4975   SOLD

SOLD: GH 31 'Keppel'

Launched 2000

After an 20 year happy association I’m thinking the unthinkable and floating Keppel on the market. She is believed to be the last built, but two. Home completed, the main core of the boat was constructed by Golden Hind Marine. She was the first of the last three to have the GRP aft section and cockpit as well as a GRP heads/shower and she was first to have the new balanced rudder. This makes her very maneuverable in close quarters.

Keppel has featured regularly in PBO and, to a lesser extent, Classic Boat.

Fitted out with an extensive inventory for live-a-board cruising in hot climates particularly, she makes a cool; and comfortable home which she combines with good sea-keeping qualities. She has a sprightlier than normal performance courtesy of her larger than normal sail plan and aqua-dynamic foiled bilge plates. These plates have double the normal footprint width that, consequently, resist cheese-wiring into soft mud. Importantly, they are free of vibration at all speeds.

She is also fitted out for inland waterway cruising.

There is a very comprehensive spec’ which can be emailed on request. Included is a Nanni 29 engine (2000 but removed from boat and totally overhauled in 2013), a calorifier and shower, opening Vetus windows throughout. She has a 2-way opening fore hatch, two bow anchor systems, independent of each of, for security and a kedge for Med mooring bows-to. She carries a large tan genoa headsail but a demountable inner fore-stay is available for the snug heavy weather rig. To keep her in ‘60’s genre she has gold anodised spars.

Recent major overhauls:

  • Engine removed and totally overhauled by Peter Norris in his workshop in 2013.
  • Mast fixed rigging renewed and much of the running renewed by Larkmans in 2013.
  • Treadmaster renewed buy Robertsons boatyard in late 2012.

Electronic equipment ethic has been ‘simplicity’:

  • Nasa Sting Ray echo sounder (2000), but a new one can be suppled for when it croaks
  • Nasa AIS transponder (2010)
  • Standard Horizon DSC VHF (2010)
  • Garmin 152 GPS (2010)
  • Nasa AIS Radar (2010
  • Voltwatch volt monitor (2000)
  • Navico 300 tiller pilot (2000)
  • Plastimo illuminated bulkhead compass (2000)
  • Two 110amp/hr batteries, switched (2013)
  • Navtex Target Std weather information (2000, but a new one can be supplied)
  • Shore power (10amp battery charger), three AC power sockets, HW immersion. (2000)
  • Demountable 30W solar panel (for rigging above bimini for max exposure - 2005)
  • Stirling alternator regulator to increase battery capacity and charge rates (2007)
  • LED lights

Her light and airy interior is fitted out using teak and iroko.

A comprehensive press cutting book containing over 150 full length features may be included.

sale price down to £49,950 (to reflect the new reality of life)

Keppel is currently based at Aigues Mortes (S. of France) but is expected to relocate to Brittany during summer 2021.

 :  Eventide 26.  Kittiwake.

For Sale Kittiwake, Eventide 26

A well-known and good-looking Maurice Griffiths designed Eventide with lots of extras. A nice project boat but unfortunately, I do not have the time or resources to do her justice. She would suit somebody with the time and skills to restore her back to her former glory, thus making an excellent project for someone with practical skills and an interest in sailing. So if you are up for the challenge and would like your time and patience rewarded with years and years of fantastic sailing and the knowledge that you have saved Kittiwake from the breakers and at a bargain price, then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kittiwake has suffered from rain penetration through the coach roof and cockpit which has collected in the forepeak and caused the keelson plank to suffer from wet rot just forward of the bulkhead into the forepeak.

She is located on the hard on her own launching/recovery trailer (not a road trailer) at Glasson Sailing Club, Glasson Dock, Near Lancaster, LA2 0DB.

Berth: 4

Length: 8.3m (approx. 26ft)

Draught: 1.2m

Beam: 2.5m

Inboard Engine: Stuart Turner 9hp Sole Diesel (Engine was in working order last year but have not tried this year).

Toilet: Sea Toilet

Equipment included in the sail;

Orange foresail, White main sail, spare white main sail, storm sail.

Blue main sail cover,

Blue spray hood,

Anchors forward and aft,

GPS and radio ariels,

VHF Radio (Ariel cable fitted in mast),

 Sestrel compass,

Nasa log and depth gauge,

GPS Plotter and Electronic Charts (Furono GPS, colour Garmin Display)

Autohelm.

As one last attempt to appeal to someone who can restore Kittiwake, as she stands with all the equipment detailed in the boats for sale advertisement she is “free to a good home”.

She will need to be removed from Glasson Sailing Club. There are lifting facilities at Glasson Marina, round the corner from sailing club which is accessed through the port authority dock at high water. She may be able to be towed on the water or she may be able to manage it under her own steam if the engine is given a check over/service – it last ran twelve months ago, I have not started it since. Of course arrangement and payment of fees would have to be met by any interested parties to take to the marina and for lift out. If interested parties have their own road trailer she could be launched off her current launching trailer and then recovered onto their road trailer easily on the slip way at the sailing club.

I appreciate there will be a cost for anyone interested but hopefully this is offset with Kittiwake now available free including the equipment detailed in the advert..

I would like to get Kittiwake off the sailing club site by end of September before winter sets in so if anyone is interested please make contact as soon as possible.

Many thanks

Ian

SOLD:  Steel Golden Hind 34.  Junk rig.

Project!!!!!

Sadly most of the interior soft furnishings will need disposing of and the interior deep cleaning, as it is apparent she is full of mould.  Not a job for the faint hearted!

Jua is a 34ft Steel built Golden Hind.  She is junk rigged with two masts and two sets of sails.

There is a large diesel in her, condition unknown, was running..

In her day she has sailed the UK coasts,  the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic.

Sadly due to circumstances she has been left sealed up and water has got in, causing the mould damage.  The Hull however appears sound and as she has been stored ashore, this has hopefully limited corrosion.

A determined effort clearing and cleaning her will reveal a  boat that you could live on for long periods and sail anywhere in the world!

Yes, she is very much a project, but where else could you buy a 34ft steel, go anywhere boat for this money!
